The imagination is one of the main areas of the mind a hypnotherapist uses to help a person.  I prefer the word utilise, because then you are working WITH the person, not directly influencing them.  Despite the perception that is usually derived from watching stage hypnosis, that a person is told what to do and can be made to do anything the hypnotist wishes, the reality is there is really only one form of hypnosis and that is self- hypnosis.  In other words the hypnotist is creating a framework for the person to voluntarily imagine experiences, events that are already within them.  This in my view is good hypnotherapy as it is hopefully conducive to the persons requirements.
