About the 5 Day Exclusive Hypnotherapy Training Inverness
This is an intensive Certificate/Diploma training course from Exclusive Hypnotherapy. The course takes one day a week over five consecutive weeks.
The succesful outcome of this eclectic 5 day Exclusive Hypnotherapy Certificate/Diploma training course, with option of joining the National Register of Hypnotherapists & Psychotherapists, is to teach Psychologists, social workers, allied health professionals and anyone with a genuine interest in helping people, effective application and practice of hypnotherapy combining relevant aspects of cognitive therapy and NLP.
The Purpose of the Course
Purpose of this Hypnotherapy Training Inverness is to enable the student to:
- Understand the essence of hypnotherapy, i.e. what it is and what it is not, to be aware of the types of psychological problems it can treat and any possible contra-indications.
- To encourage a realistic yet confident approach to its application of clinical hypnotherapy, with the consultation and therapy sessions and to set up in succesful practice.
Hypnotherapy Training Course Qualifications
After successful completion of the Exclusive Hypnotherapy Training Course and after six months supervision (on a monthly basis), graduates will be referenced to The National Register of Hypnotherapists & Psychotherapists for consideration to become Full Members. Thereby being able to use the designating letters Dip (Excl Hyp) MNRHP.
All members will then require to have professional indemnity insurance which can be arranged by me or NRHP.
Day 1 of Hypnotherapy Training Inverness
Introduction to Hypnotherapy, who and why it benefits people.
- Common misconceptions
- Contra-indications
- Preparing the consulting room for hypnotherapy
- Conducting a consultation
- How a hypnotic state is induced, use of words, semantic precision, voice tonality, inflections, pauses, pre-suppositions.
- Explanation of the physiological effects that occur within a hypnotic state.
- Signs to be aware of during the hypnotic state.
- Terminating the hypnotherapy session
Hypnotherapy Demonstration
Participants are encouraged to practice one to one under my supervision.

Day 2 of Hypnotherapy Training Inverness
REBT / Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
- Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy with rational emotive imagery
- Further explanation on conducting a hypnotherapy session REI in practice as a pre-cursor to the hypnotherapy session.
- Discussion of the work of Dr Claire Weekes MBE, the pioneering anxiety doctor.
- Formulation of suggestions for the hypnotherapy session, use of metaphors
- Discussion of a direct approach from Dr Albert Ellis, the originator of cognitive Therapy & Diplomate from the American Board of Psychological Hypnosis.
- An indirect approach from the outstanding Psychiatrist/Hypnotherapist Dr Milton Erickson.
- Effective combining of them.
- One to one practice.

About Robin Thorburn
Robin Thorburn is an experienced Psychotherapist and motivator with 33 years experience; he has successfully conducted over 20,000 therapy sessions, he owns the longest full-time Hypno-psychotherapy practice in Edinburgh. He trained with The National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, one of only a few organisations of its kind in Britain which is externally accredited by The British Accreditation Council. Robin is a full member of The National Register of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists, qualifying with a practical distinction, and writing a dissertation on Cognitive Methodologies which was subsequently published by the National College.
Robin is the Clinical Director for the originator of cognitive therapy, Dr Albert Ellis’ wife: Dr Joffe Ellis and entrustee of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy.
Robin W. Thorburn is an Approved provider to Bupa.
Robin is a Fellow of The National Society of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. He is also a member of The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and a UKCP accredited supervisor. His training is equivalent to that of a Masters Degree.
