Hypnotherapy Training Edinburgh
The associative posthypnotic suggestion.
The APHS, as it is known in hypnotherapy, is a very useful technique. For allowing the client to recall powerful, confident, positive memories. It serves as a very good reminder for the person to realise. That they are confident. It is also useful to interrupt. The flow. The flow from memory and feeling. By bringing in a powerful relaxing image. Thereby reducing an adrenaline output.
The APHS is created midway through the hypnotherapy session by asking the person to imagine themselves in their own private cinema, looking ahead of at a screen. On the screen emerging, is a powerful, relaxed, confident image of them. If it’s difficult to imagine, allow my words to convey the same meaning. They may even wish to imagine that they have a remote control. So that they can turn up the colour. Turn up the brightness, turn off the good, good feeling. Really enjoy and luxuriate in the more relaxed, calm, confident you. And if at any time in the future, you require a powerful reminder of calmness, relaxation and confidence. Simply by taking two slow, deep breaths. And gently pressing the index finger and thumb of your left hand together. You can rapidly recall relaxation. As I said previously, this is a splendid interruption to offset old out of date memory.
The person can report back. That there maybe even unaware of doing the APHS.
I’m reminded of a story a few years ago I went into a shop. There was an ex-client of mine in the shop. And she said to me, I was thinking about you the other day. I said what do you mean? She said I was having this argument with my husband. And he kept saying to me, why are you pointing at me with your finger and thumb pressed together. In other words, she was trying to offset her anger. In the middle of this argument. The associate of post hypnotic suggestion is a very useful technique in the armoury of the hypnotherapist to allow their client to move towards freedom.
